A challenge match with Vitantonio Liuzzi and Andrea Caldarelli

31/01/2012

There was a drivers’ challenge match last weekend. And strange to say, but there was no circuit involved.

Along with my great friend Andrea Caldarelli, the Toyota works driver, and Tonio Liuzzi, the great Formula 1 driver, we battled it out… around the billiards table.

Yes, in Lugano we helped pass the time until the season gets underway with four games of billiards. It hardly needs to be said that we all have far more talent on a race track than on the green baize.

In any case, I was joined for the occasion by my best friend Davide Cammarata and after just two games the score read Fontana/Cammarata 2 – 0 Liuzzi/Caldarelli.

The Italian team then staged a considerable comeback with two consecutive victories to ensure the match ended all-square.

Not bad! The final will be staged soon to decide the ultimate victors.

It was a great evening and it’s always nice to spend time away from the tracks with other drivers. In part because we all know how hard it is to be unable to drive fro one reason or another over the winter.

As far as I’m concerned, negotiations are still on-going and we’re working hard on putting together the budget and choosing the right category for 2012. There’ll be plenty of news soon!
