Alex Fontana in Portimao for the start of the International GT Open season

24/04/2025
With the first round of the International GT Open coming up, Alex Fontana is ready to return to the international series dedicated to GT cars and will be doing so at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve in Portimao. The Swiss driver will once again be competing with Car Collection Motorsport, sharing the German team’s Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) with a driver from the AF Academy who will be joining Alex for the rest of the year. As was the case last season, the Car Collection Motorsport crew will compete in the Pro-Am category, in which the German team’s duo finished last year with a victory in Race 2 at Barcelona.

For the opening round of the year at the Portimao circuit, the International GT Open sprint format will remain unchanged. The action on the track will therefore begin on Friday the 25th of April with two 60-minute free practice sessions, scheduled for 10:46 and 14:18 local time; in addition, a third 20-minute session entirely dedicated to bronze category drivers will start at 16:32. On Saturday the 26th of April, the first qualifying session of the season will get underway at 10:10 local time, while Race 1 lasting 70 minutes will start at 14:45. Finally, on Sunday the 27th of April, the second official practice session will take place at 9:00 a.m. local time and determine the starting grid for the Race 2 of the weekend lasting 60 minutes and scheduled for 1:15 p.m.

Alex Fontana
“I can't wait to be back on the grid for the start of the International GT Open: it's a really competitive championship and I'm ready to put myself to the test again this year. In 2024, we had some great results over the course of the season, but I'm sure the best is yet to come. I would like to thank Car Collection Motorsport for believing in this project once again. My teammate and I will do our utmost to improve race by race and fight for significant results throughout the season.”
