Alex Fontana will be back behind the wheel over the weekend of 13-15 September at the Red Bull Ring for the third round of the 2024 International GT Open, the series organised by GT Sport for cars in the GT3 class. As has been the case throughout the season, the Swiss driver will be piloting the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) entered by Car Collection, while sharing driving duties will be “Hash”, the American AF Academy graduate.
The Fontana/”Hash” duo will be looking for their third points finish of the season, fresh from a strong showing at the Paul Ricard circuit going into the summer break. The continuous improvement of the star and stripes driver, aided by Alex’s advice and experience, bodes well for the final races of the season. The weekend at the track nestled in the Styrian mountains presents several unknown quantities, starting with the weather, which is always uncertain and variable. It is also a track that Fontana has not visited since 2014, when he raced there in GP3, obtaining the second fastest time in qualifying.
It will be an important test ì for “Hash”, but also offers the potential for a dynamic race, given the Swiss driver’s talent in the wet, of which already reminded us in France in the previous round. The format features two races with durations of 70 and 60 minutes respectively, alternated with further qualifying sessions on the Saturday and the Sunday, with each driver taking the wheel.
Alex Fontana:
“We’re hoping to continue the good form we showed at the Paul Ricard. It’s not going to be easy for Hash to adapt to the conditions if the rain comes, as the Red Bull Ring is not a forgiving track, but with the support of the Car Collection team we can continue to aim higher and higher”.
