Alex Fontana 2025 season continues with the International GT Open. Following the 4th place obtained in the Spa-Francorchamps circuit in Belgium, the Swiss driver is ready to take to the track at Hockenheim on the strength of the 28 points conquered in the first two rounds of the championship. The podium finish at Portimao has left him in 3rd place in the PRO-AM category drivers’ standings. As with the first two races, Fontana will be driving the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) #31 entered by the Car Collection Motorsport team, with the advantage of having already discharged the handicap imposed after the successful Portuguese outing.
The German circuit has not featured frequently in Alex Fontana’s racing career. His last visit was in 2024 in last season’s edition of the International GT Open, again with Car Collection Motorsport. In 2014, he took part in the double race at Hockenheim in the GP3 championship and in 2010 he recorded a satisfactory 12th place on his debut in the Italian Formula 3 series. This will be the first time that Fontana has returned to the German circuit with the same car, permitting him to exploit the development work done last season.
The format for the Hockenheim weekend will once again feature two sprint races lasting 70 minutes for Race-1 and 60 minutes for Race-2. Friday 6 June will see the first hour-long free practice sessions at 10:40 and at 14:45. The green flag will drop on Saturday 7 June for the first of the two qualifying sessions which will define the starting grid for Race-1 scheduled for 14:25 that afternoon. On Sunday 8 June the second qualifying session will get underway at 9:10, with Race-2 due to start at 13:10 completing the International GT Open 2025’s German weekend.
Alex Fontana
“The GT Open season is going very well at the moment and so the objective for this round is clearly that of maintaining the same rhythm we have shown in the first two races. At Spa we were handicapped by the additional time we had to spend in the last pit-stop which due to the victory at Portimao, but here at Hockenheim we’ll aiming for the podium again, exploiting the experience my teammate gained here last year.”
