Alex Fontana back on the CTCC podium at Ningbo

18/09/2019

Alex Fontana is celebrating another great result in the China Touring Car Championship, which this past weekend was featuring at the Ningbo circuit together with the World Touring Car Championship. The Swiss driver was on the podium following Race 1 thanks to a third place obtained at the wheel of the works KIA K3 2.0, the car which the versatile Swiss driver has helped develop from the outset of the project.

Starting from the second row of the grid, Fontana succeeded in holding onto this position at the chequered flag and through to the penultimate lap was actually running in second place. The Lugano-based drive finished in 10th place in Race 2, again making an invaluable contribution to KIA’s constructors' title challenge. The Korean marque is well placed in the highly competitive series that features rivals of the calibre of Volkswagen, Ford, Toyota and BAIC.

The Ningbo race was Fontana's second CTCC appearance of the season, with foreign drivers unable to participate in every round of the series. Alex had competed in the opening weekend at Guangdong in May, celebrating a podium finish on that occasion too.

Alex Fontana
“It’s always great to get a taste of the podium atmosphere, all the more so in a hard-fought series such as the CTCC. The result in Race 1 was reward for all the efforts we had made over a weekend in which our car had seemed less competitive than those of our rivals. In these situations you have make the most of every opportunity, which is what we were able to do on the Sunday with 10th place in Race 2. Now we are determined to regain competitiveness for the season finale in which I’ll personally be aiming for a victory while helping KIA retain the constructors’ title it won in 2018.”
