Alex Fontana back on track in the GT Open series at Le Castellet

17/07/2024
The fifth round of the International GT Open is just around the corner and Alex Fontana is ready to fight for a position among the leaders again. The Swiss driver will in fact be at Le Castellet for the start of the second half of the season, with the French circuit hosting the series reserved for GT cars on 21 July.

The French trip represents another opportunity for Alex to try and bring home a good result: to this end the Swiss driver will once again be taking to the track at the wheel of the Porsche 992 GT3 R entered the Car Collection Motorsport team, racing in the Pro-Am category. As usual in this series, Fontana will share the cockpit of the Stuttgart car with “Hash”, an American driver from the AF Academy who has been showing very encouraging signs of development since the beginning of the season. Alex will therefore be returning to the Circuit Paul Ricard, a track that has seen him on the podium several times - including an important success last season in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup, also with Car Collection Motorsport and again in the Pro-Am class. Further back, another important stepping-stone in his career was the test at Paul Ricard with Lotus Formula 1 in 2013.

The traditional format for the series includes free practice on Friday, with Alex then engaged in two races: the first, lasting 70 minutes, scheduled for Saturday 20 July at 17:45, and the second of 60 minutes scheduled for Sunday 21 at 13:35. Each race will also have a dedicated qualifying session, with Fontana and “Hash” taking turns at the wheel of their Porsche 992 GT3 R as they attempt to record their best time.

Alex Fontana
â€śI am really happy to be back on track for the fifth round of the International GT Open. Circuit Paul Ricard is a track where I have always felt comfortable, and it is the perfect place to try and improve our luck in this championship. Thanks to Car Collection Motorsport’s hard work and Hash’s constant improvements, we have all the makings for a great result.”
