Alex Fontana and Luca Giorgetti take Clay Regazzoni’s Ferrari F40 back to the winner's circle

Alex Fontana and Luca Giorgetti won the Passione Engadina regularity trial that finished at St. Moritz on  Sunday. The Swiss crew triumphed in the modern and supercar category, but what is more important is that they did so at the wheel of Clay Regazzoni’s legendary Ferrari F40, taking what was the great Swiss champion’s best-loved car back to the winner’s circle.

A Formula 1 with covered wheels and close on 500 hp, as the young driver Alex Fontana confirms: “Yes, I have to admit that on the Forno, Flüela and Albula passes we had some fun, giving free rein to the power of Clay’s Ferrari, although we did have to slow up to respect the pre-set timings at the checkpoints. The win came as something of a surprise given that I’m a track driver and certainly not accustomed to trials. The merit therefore has to go to Luca who guided me with fantastic precision.  However, we set out with a different mission in mind: passing on the message throughout the Grigioni region and to all the classic car fans that there’s a Memorial Room in Lugano dedicated to Clay Regazzoni (www.clayregazzoni.com) and to continue his work in bringing attention to and supporting research into paraplegia. I think we did that.”
