Alex Fontana will be lining up on the grid for the forthcoming Asian Le Mans Series (ALMS) 2024-2025, the 13th season of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) Asian series, a championship increasingly eagerly awaited by many drivers. What characterises the ALMS is its position on the calendar; it is in fact used as a preparatory series during the winter and growing exponentialy year on year in terms of its field of competitors.
In addition, being an ACO championship like its European counterpart – the European Le Mans Series, in which Fontana took part in 2018, 2019 and 2021 in LMP3 – an invitation is offered to the winners of each category for the next edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours. The French marathon, part of the FIA World Endurance Championship, has once again become a hotly contested event for motorsport’s leading marques thanks to regulatory changes for the prototype and GT classes, with the arrival of the GT3 cars.
For the next edition, Alex Fontana will be back behind the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) with which he tackled much of the 2024 season. Speaking of an endurance series, his teammates will be Yannick Mettler and ‘Hash’ (a driver from the AF Academy), defending the colours of Car Collection Motorsport. The trio have already competed together in endurance races on several occasions, including the Abu Dhabi 12 Hours, the Barcelona 24 Hours and the Indianapolis 8 Hours. The crew will be competing in the GT3 class starting at the Sepang track, with the first two 4-hour races scheduled for the 7th and 8th of December 2024.
Following a short break, the championship will then move to the Middle East with the arrival of the New Year, with the third and fourth rounds being held in Dubai (8th and 9th of February 2025). Finally, the Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi will close the 13th edition of the ALMS on the 15th and 16th of February with the final two 4-hour races.
The circuit in Malaysia, famous for hosting Moto GP today and Formula 1 in the past, is a facility that Alex Fontana got to know during the GT China series in the 2019 season with the Mercedes GT4. However, the humidity and high temperatures will be additional unknown factors to be taken into account during the race weekend.
Alex Fontana: “It is an honour to be able to represent Car Collection Motorsport in the upcoming Asian Le Mans Series. This is a fascinating championship, which serves to prepare for the European season without forgetting the ticket on offer for Le Mans. I’m happy to be able to do this with Yannick and Hash; it will definitely be a way to see the fruits of our hard work together during 2024. We have decided to race with the iconic livery we presented in previous years, which recalls the desert. A design that the fans liked so much and that we enjoyed as well, giving a touch of creativity to our campaign, but also a tribute to the races, especially in the Middle East, which will provide a very useful foundation for our 2025 work.”
