Alex Fontana lands in America

02/10/2024
It’s a seasonal debut in the Intercontinental GT Challenge (IGTC) for Alex Fontana in the Indianapolis 8 Hours scheduled for 4-5 October 2024. The Swiss driver will once again be at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) entered by the Car Collection team with which he also competes in the International GT Open. Fresh from the GT3 championship, Fontana will be reunited with  teammate “Hash”, the American driver (at his home race on this occasion) from the AF Academy. They will be joined by Yannick Mettler, a Swiss compatriot, to form a trio that has already raced together in other endurance events: the 2023 Barcelona 24 Hours – when they were close to the podium in the Pro-Am category – and the 2023 Gulf 12 Hours, part of the IGTC calendar, which had an unfortunate outcome due to an accident in qualifying, as well as the 2024 editions of the Mugello and Spa 12 Hour races.

The crew now have an opportunity to set the record right in 2024 on the Indianapolis circuit, a first for both Car Collection Motorsport and Alex Fontana. The four-kilometre US track intersects in some sections with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, an extra challenge in preparing the car’s set-up. The Fontana/"Hash"/Mettler trio will be in the Pro-Am category, grappling with an unpredictable race considering the change of lighting conditions, with night drawing in for the finale.

Alex Fontana: “I’m really looking forward to racing in Indianapolis and it will be great to do it with Car Collection, Hash and Yannick. This is a circuit where you can breathe in motorsport history, but it will not be easy to set up the car as we have no data from past editions. Also, Porsche has never won here, but we will do our best to compete at the top of our class".
