Alex Fontana will be on the starting grid for the 2025 edition of the Italian Gran Turismo Sprint Championship: the Swiss driver will be participating in one of the most competitive GT championships not only at a national, but also at a European level. Alex will compete in the Italian series with Centri Porsche Ticino, continuing for a fourth year the partnership with the Swiss team that has given both parties great satisfaction over recent seasons. Fontana will therefore take to the track in Centri Porsche Ticino’s Porsche 992 GT3 Cup, a car he knows well and which has already seen him triumph in recent years.
Joining Fontana at the wheel of the Stuttgart car will be Matej Knez. Born in 1984, the Slovenian is one of the drivers from the AF Academy, thanks to which he made his motor racing debut last season. This is in fact a crew that came together in 2024, the year in which Fontana and Knez raced in the Italian Gran Turismo Endurance Championship with Centri Porsche Ticino. The pairing proved to be competitive from the outset, finishing second overall in the second division of the GT Cup AM class, thanks to two valuable victories and two further podium finishes. Furthermore, Fontana and Knez also started the 2025 season together, taking part in the prestigious Dubai 24 Hours.
The Italian Gran Turismo Sprint Championship calendar features four rounds at the most famous circuits in Italy, each consisting of two races of 50 minutes plus one lap. The season is scheduled to get underway at the Autodromo Piero Taruffi Vallelunga from 23 to 25 May, before heading to the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello from 11 to 13 July. Following the summer break, the championship will visit Imola, with the Autodromo Enzo and Dino Ferrari hosting the series from 26 to 28 September. The final round will instead be held at Monza, from 24 to 26 October.
Alex Fontana
“I’m delighted to be able to compete in the Italian Gran Turismo Sprint Championship again, after having driven in the Endurance series last year. This is one of the most competitive GT championships in the world and I am looking forward to being back on track alongside Centri Sport Ticino for what will be our fourth year together. I’m proud to be able to share their Porsche 992 GT3 Cup with Matej, one of the most competitive and consistent drivers from the AF Academy: I can't wait to start the season at Vallelunga.”
