Alex Fontana on the podium first time out in China

03/11/2016

Alex Fontana strikes again. The Swiss driver, signed by KIA Motors a few weeks ago to race in the China Touring Car Championship, did not disappoint the powers that be at the Korean firm, bringing home a podium finish and a place on the front row of the grid at the Guiyang circuit, but above all demonstrating the potential of the new KIA K3 that will be competing for the title officially in 2017. With over 20 cars on the track, in qualifying Alex recorded the second fastest time, just behind Rob Huff, the WTCC champion who has returned to action in the CTCC, without doubt raising the series' level of competition and spectacle. In Race 1 Alex battled with Huff from the start, with the positions remaining unchanged, in the meantime he had to watch out for the Ford works driver Andy Yan who eventually found a way past to snatch second place. However, third at the chequered flag was an excellent result for Alex, attracting the applause of the large local crowd and above all the KIA management, enthusiastically gathered in front of the podium.
