The 2026 GT World Challenge Europe season is set to welcome drivers back to the Nürburgring for the fourth round of the Endurance series. Alex Fontana will be taking to the track with the Lionspeed GP team at the wheel of the #89 Porsche 911 GT3 R (992) EVO. Sharing driving duties will be Bashar Mardini and Patrick Kolb, with the crew competing in the Bronze Cup. Following their podium finish at the Spa 24 Hours and 6th place at Monza, the trio have secured a total of 29 points in the overall standings.
Alex has enjoyed considerable success at the Nürburgring in the past: in 2021 he claimed victory in the Silver Cup with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3, whilst in 2023 he finished 2ndin the Pro-Am Cup with the Porsche 911 GT3 R (992), the same car (albeit without the EVO specification) with which Alex will tackle the Nürburgring 3 Hours this coming weekend. Furthermore, Alex is picking up right where he left off at the ‘Ring, having secured a podium finish in the NLS Endurance race before the summer break.
In what is a packed weekend programme, the first practice sessions are scheduled for 11.45 am, with the Bronze Test taking place at 4.40 pm on Friday the 28th of August. On the Saturday, the cars will take to the track for two free practice sessions at 10.50 and 16.15, whilst Sunday will see the official qualifying sessions and the main event: at 9.45, the green light will show for the four qualifying sessions that will determine the grid for the 3 Hours race, due to start at 15.00.
