This weekend, Alex Fontana will be competing in the Hankook 12 Hours at Mugello. Following the recent group tests for the International GT Open at Montmelòù, near Barcelona, everything is ready for the beginning of the 2024 campaign. The Mugello race, the third round of the 24h Series after Abu Dhabi and Dubai, will mark the Swiss driver’s season debut at the wheel of the Car Collection team’s Porsche 911 GT3 R (992), running in the GT3 PRO-AM class. Fontana, winner of the Endurance Cup of the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe 2023 with the support of Car Collection, is back with Ivan Jacoma, Yannick Mettler and the American, Hash – as announced, his teammate in the GT Open 2024.
This line-up had been entered for the Gulf 12 Hours 2023 on the Yas Marina circuit, for which however Jacoma had been replaced at the last minute by Stefano Costantini, who was then the unfortunate protagonist of a qualifying crash that meant the team was unable to take part in the race. An appearance in the Hankook 24h in Dubai had been planned, but the change in the scheduling of the race following the well-known events in the Suez Canal prevented the team from participating. The Hankook 12h at the Mugello, from 22 to 24 March 2024, will kick off with 90 minutes of free practice on the Friday morning, followed by three qualifying sessions in the afternoon. The will be split into two six-hour parts: the first will get underway on the Saturday at 12:30, while the second will start on the Sunday morning at 9:00 AM.

“I’m going into the new season with great enthusiasm along with Car Collection, who have shown renewed faith and will allow me to compete in the Mugello 12h, an important event that will mark a new beginning after several unfortunate episodes. With the objective of repeating last season’s success in the Fanatec GT World Challenge Europe powered by AWS – Endurance Cup, I’m fully motivated to give my best together with my teammates Hash, Ivan and Yannick. Our previous collaboration brought notable results, including a podium finish in the Barcelona 24 Hours and we’re determined to continue in this direction. The partnership with Has, a graduate of the AF Academy, is particularly promising given our joint participation in this year’s GT Open. I can’t wait to race at the Mugello on the 22nd of March, at the wheel of the Porsche 911 GT3 R, in the hope that we’ll be able to challenge for a prestigious result in this the first race of the new season”.
