28/09/2026
Alex Fontana’s spectacular performance in the penultimate round of the 2026 GT Open saw him finish on the podium at Monza. The Swiss driver was joined by Pietro Armanni in the #911 Porsche 911 GT3 R EVO (992) enteredby ZRS Motorsportandcompeting in the PRO class. Unlike previous rounds of the championship, the Monza round followed the same format as Spa-Francorchamps: a single 500-kilometre race on the Sunday. Under thisendurance format, the starting grid was establishedby taking the average of the times set by both drivers in qualifying. Fontana clocked 1:44.481, which, when combined with Armanni’s time, allowed ZRS Motorsport to start from4thplace overall.

Alex took the first stint inthe GT Open 500 at Monza and held on to4thplace whilst fending off the championship leaders. The Porsche 911 suffered a minor differential issue which affected its handling balancefor both drivers. Despite this, both Alex and then Pietro in the second stint managed to set a good race pace, preventing their rivals from overtaking them. The Italian actually managed to move up to3rdplace by capitalising on hislower handicap time during the second pit stop, handingthe car back to Alex for the third stint. In the final stages of the race, the gaps widened, leaving Alex and Pietro alone in4thplace, well clear of any battle for position. In the last three laps, the retirement of one of their rivals’ cars allowed Armanni to claim the lowest step onthe podium, securing a superb result that keeps the Fontana and Armanni pairing in with amathematical chance of taking the championship title as they head into the final two races of the season in Barcelona.

ZRS Motorsport secured 20 points in the overall standings, taking their tally to 112 and moving up to4thplace. The next and final round of the 2026 season will take place in Barcelona overthe weekend of the 25th ofOctober.

“It’s been a truly excellent weekend here at Monza, starting with qualifying and then finishing on the podium. The differential issue made things difficult for us, but Pietro was phenomenal in defending our position and managing the car. I’m absolutely delighted with the progress we’ve made together with Pietro and the ZRS Motorsport team; I’m pleased that all our friends and fans who came to Monza to support us at this home race were able to celebrate theresult with us.”
