The fourth round of the International GT Open season saw Alex Fontana secure his second victory of 2026 in the Gran Turismo series. At the Hungaroring circuit, the Swiss driver claimed a splendid victory in Race 1, returning to the top of the podium after his win in the season-opening race. Once again, Alex was partnered by the young Italian driver Pietro Armanni, driving the Porsche 991 GT3R prepared by ZRS Motorsport.
Saturday proved to be a triumphant day for Fontana, who had shown himself to be competitive right from qualifying. After battling throughout the session for pole position, Alex was held up by traffic on his final attempt and had to settle for 3rd place on the grid. At the start of the race, Fontana cleverly moved straight into second place, his excellent race pace then allowing him to pull away from the rest of the field. Many drivers pitted as soon as the mandatory pit stop window opened, whilst Fontana chose to keep pushing through to his final lap; once the pit stop was complete, car number 911 re-emerged in the lead. Armanni then skilfully guided the car to the finish line, allowing the ZRS Motorsport team to celebrate their second victory of the season, following their win in the first race at PortimĂŁo.
In Race 2, it was Armanni who started the race, having qualified in eleventh position. In what was a difficult opening stint, traffic prevented the ZRS Motorsport Porsche from making up ground, with the Italian driver returning to the pits just a few minutes after the pit lane opened for the mandatory stops. Fontana then took control of the situation, attempting to set his own rjythm, but the penalty he had to serve following his excellent results in recent races pushed his car further down the field. The Ticino-born driver did, however, manage to make up ground during his first few laps at the wheel, before becoming bogged down once again in the traffic caused by the Hungarian “toboggan run”. The number 911 crew thus finished the weekend’s second race in 10th place.

“It was brilliant to get back to winning ways in the International GT Open. In Race 1, we had a near-perfect race from start to finish, and I’m delighted to have secured my second victory of the season. I’m disappointed not to have achieved a better result on Sunday, but as we were well aware, overtaking is difficult on this circuit. It was still a great weekend for us, and I’d like to thank both Pietro and ZRS Motorsport for all their hard work this weekend. I can’t wait to get back on track in two weeks’ time at Le Castellet for the next round.”
