This weekend saw me making my 2013 season competition debut, participating in the first round of the GP3 Series in concomitance with the Formula 1 Spanish Grand Prix. Following a great third place in free practice I received the bitter news that along with other drivers I had been penalised 10 places on the grid for Race 1 for not having slowed sufficiently when the yellow flag was shown. I never gave up and tried to do as well as possible in qualifying, setting the fourth fastest time. This meant I started the race from 13th place. In the bumping and barging at the first corner I found myself 15th, but then moved up to 10th at the finish, just ahead of one of the Red Bull drivers seen as one of the title favourites. In Race 2, after a slow start and lying 16th on the 2nd lap I eventually finished 9th. The moral of the story: we’re coming back from Barcelona with just a single point but we were quick both in qualifying and the race. Soon, very soon, we’ll be reaping what we deserve.
