Big news for Alex Fontana this autumn. After having completed the 2016 Blancpain GT Series with McLaren GT, the Swiss driver has been called up by KIA Motors to contribute to the development of the new K3 2.0 SuperProduction model in the China Touring Car Championship (CTCC). This series, which comprises eight races in China and Korea, still has two races to run on 30 October and 6 November on the Guiyang and Shanghai tracks respectively. Fontana will be the only KIA works driver entered for the 2.0 class in order to test under race conditions the car that will feature in 2017. The championship, the Asian version of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), boasts the official presence of the local subsidiaries of Saic Volkswagen, Ford, Honda, KIA, Toyota, Hyundai and Baic Motor, with a starting grid composed of no less than 30 cars.

“I would like to thank KIA Motors for this opportunity. We got to know each other during a test session a few weeks ago and there was an immediate feeling with both the technical staff that worked closely with me in developing the car and with the Korean managers, from whom came the official engagement for this season's finale. I’m proud to have been chosen from a shortlist of highly qualified candidates and I’m sure we’ll do a great job. In this case it will not be about attacking the final standings, but rather working together to explore the limits of this new car, the K3, so that it can achieve its full potential in 2017.”
