The fourth round of the GT4 Italy Series was held at the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Circuit, with Imola representing the penultimate drive in the series for Alex Fontana. The Swiss driver was competing in the Centri Porsche Ticino team’s #75 Porsche 718 Cayman alongside Danilo Arfini, an AF Academy driver for whom Alex is acting as a driving coach.
As with the previous rounds, the weekend was organized over three days, each featuring qualifying sessions and races lasting 50 minutes plus one lap. Qualifying took place on the Friday with Alex Fontana’s time of 1:50.220 securing pole position for Sunday’s race, a full second faster than any other time recorded over the weekend. Arfini, meanwhile, secured 12th place on the grid for Saturday’s race.
Unfortunately, Saturday’s race ended prematurely due to a spin that sent Arfini’s Porsche onto the gravel at the Acque Minerali corner, forcing the car to retire.
Fontana took the first stint in Sunday’s race and starting from pole position, the Swiss driver immediately managed to pull away from the entire grid and build a lead of more than 20 seconds over the first of his pursuers. Alex also set the fastest lap of the race in 1:51.089. After the pit stop, Arfini took the wheel of the Porsche 718 Cayman and was tasked with managing the lead through to the chequered flag. Arfini also put in a very strong stint, retaining the lead until the final lap, when a spin dropped him down to 5th place. The crew of Noah Massa and Jorden Dolischka, another two AF Academy drivers, rounded off the weekend by finishing 5th on Saturday and 9th on Sunday. Also worthy of note was the debut of a third driver from the AF Academy, Francesco Polari, who finished his race in the top 10.
The final round of the GT4 Italy Series is scheduled for Monza over the weekend of 9–11 October 2026. Alex Fontana will be replaced by Norbert Siedler due to a clash with the Indianapolis round of the Intercontinental GT Challenge, but Alex will be back in action this coming weekend for the GT Open series at the Hockenheim circuit.
