Pole position and a podium for Alex Fontana in the GT4 Italy Series at Mugello

Alex Fontana’s 2026 GT4 Italy Series season continued with a splendid podium finish in the third round held at the Mugello circuit. Fontana was at the wheel of the #75 Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 entered by the Centri Porsche Ticino team, alongside Danilo Arfini, a driver from the AF Academy for whom Alex is both coach and teammate. 

 

The two qualifying sessions took place on the Saturday with Arfini secured 15thplace overall for Race 1, whilst Alex claimed pole position in Race 2 with a time of 1:56.533. 

 

Arfini started the first race. The Italian driver continued to reinforce his confidence in the car and the circuit, gradually improving his race pace while holding onto 15th place. Alex then took the wheel when the driver change window opened and proceeded to stage a comeback that saw him finish the race in 7th place. 

 

In Sunday’s race, the Swiss driver put on a spectacular show in a duel lasting more than 20 minutes against his rivals, whilst also building up a lead of almost 15 seconds over the driver in 3rd place. Fontana held onto the lead, successfully defending against constant attempts to overtake his Porsche. After the driver change, Arfini returned to the track as race leader, eventually crossing the finish line in 2nd place and, most importantly, securing his first podium of the season. 

 

The second car from Alex Fontana’s Academy, driven by Jorden Dolischka and Noah Massa, rounded off the weekend with a 6th-place finish in Race 1 and an 8th-place finish in Race 2, providing further confirmation of the AF Academy’s excellent progress. The Fontana–Arfini duo, meanwhile, picked up 19 points thanks to their podium finish and 7th place in the two Mugello races. The next round of the GT4 Italy Series is scheduled for  the 6th of September at the Imola circuit.
