We’ve seen it all over the last few races, with our route to the podium and victory always seeming to be obstructed by mishaps of various kinds.
In truth, however, the final result of the two races at Spa is relative. Modest eighth and fifth places (and a podium dream that faded), but I see them as a stirring fightback, one of those that are fun, very aggressive but (to the satisfaction of the marshals) fair and square. I also see them in terms of rediscovered speed in the wet, where personally I’ve been struggling to adapt to the English car; speed that is now getting ever closer to those of the best of the championship’s rain masters (at Spa a rowing boat would have come in handy). I also see them as excellent results in terms of pure speed in the dry, both during qualifying and in the race. And here I can confirm that had the race not been abandoned due to the torrential rain that swept across the Ardennes circuit, I would have been fighting to win through to the last lap, the last corner. However, you never get anywhere with ifs and but, you need certainties. And the certainties are that the adversaries who missed seeing me catch up furiously in Race 1, were without doubt preoccupied to find me breathing down their necks on the first rows of the grid for Race 2. Don’t worry, friends and fans, they’ll be seeing me again soon.
