We got off to what was frankly a difficult start in the first round of the GP3 Series in Barcelona. Difficult in every sense and terribly disappointing in terms of points and results. I certainly wasn’t expecting an opening of this kind: we had prepared meticulously and had the potential to challenge for the leading positions.
However, a little bad luck in qualifying, a couple of poor starts, a strategic last throw of the dice to save what could be saved that didn’t pay off and we were left thinking about what might have been.
Obviously I’m not happy with how the weekend went, but I’m no less determined. I’ll certainly not be letting a couple of disappointing days get me down. We’ve got a good car, we’re quick and from the next race we’ll be back where we belong. Motor racing is made up of both joy and disappointment and we have to learn from both.
Thanks to the many of you who travelled with us and those who stayed in Barcelona on the Sunday night to enjoy a great evening at the Carpe Diem and thanks to all those who followed our progress from home.
Next stop, Austria!
