I only have happy memories of the circuit due to host rounds 7 and 8 of the FIA Formula Two Championship.
Spa-Francorchamps offers 7,006 metres of pure speed, swooping descents and full-on braking. Situated right in the middle of a forest, I remember how last year when we were reconnoitering the track at eight in the evening we heard a pack of wolves howling and spotted a pair on the other side of the fencing. Pretty terrifying! However, this isn’t really why I’m so happy to return to the Ardennes – this circuit was of course the setting for my first victory in Formula 3 when I took the lead on the very last lap. I later also scored points on my debut in the GP3, a Formula 1 feeder series.
A great circuit, unbelievable performance and excellent results. I hardly need to add that I’m fully charged for the upcoming championship races. Spa and all its variables (not least the meteorological factors) will provide us with plenty of surprises as well as opportunities to be exploited.
You’ll be able to follow Race 1 on the Saturday live on Tele Ticino or Motors TV from 13.45, with the latter channel also being available in Live Streaming on www.formulatwo.com and my site.
Race 2 will as always be on Motors TV or on the net (starting at 14.15 on the Sunday).
Enjoy the action!
