Black weekend

24/07/2012

The Le Castellet weekend was one of the most miserable of my career. Zero points from two races reads the final verdict, but what was worse was the lack of pace in qualifying and the race. In Race 1, while I was having trouble with the set-up, the biggest problem was that a Bulgarian driver span right in front of me, blocking the exit to a slow corner during the first lap, with the field still tightly packed. I nonetheless managed to restart but after overtaking five cars (on the twisty section given that I lacked the top end speed to exploit the circuit's straights) I span after making a mistake. I lost control of the car under braking for a corner with little grip and at high speed. I still think that the car was undriveable.

In Race 2, I stalled at the start of the parade lap after trying a different launch method (it was probably also due to the defective CPU that was subsequently replaced) and so I had to start from the back of the grid. After subdued start to the race, this time due to a confirmed drop in the car’s performance, I was cut-up by an English driver ahead of the Mistral straight and we both ended up spinning. After a further two laps I decided to retire. The new set-up had proved to be very poor and as I was already back in last place following the contact with Hector Hurst, the British driver, there was no sense in carrying on.

We’ll starting from scratch in the next race. What’s important is never to let your head drop… because that car’s not going to drive itself so it's better to be positive, concentrated and up for it.
